Trinity is a dynamic and diverse redemptive community of God’s people in the city focused on Jesus Christ as Lord! Our hearts are for connecting people to God and to one another.
Trinity Lutheran Church's original congregation was formed in 1853 as a branch of Evangelical Lutheran Zion Congregation in Cleveland. Trinity has remained faithfully in our current location for over 160 years.
Reverend J.C.W. Lindemann from Germany was established as Trinity's first pastor in 1853. The church building, itself, outgrew two structures before the current church building, built in 1873, satisfied our growing church. In 1863, the congregation purchased the property east of the church building for Christian education. After outgrowing the initial wooden structure, the current school building was built in 1870 and still is in use today.
Trinity began as a church for the growing German community in the Ohio City vicinity. Services were primarily in German for the first 50 years. In the first half of the 20th Century, services were in both German & English. Finally, around the middle of the century, services began being done only in English. As you can imagine, the city and neighborhood has changed multiple times in 160+ years. Throughout, God has used Trinity to minister to the surrounding neighborhood and to invite anyone from the region to join our congregation and in our mission.
